30th Annual Anchorage Folk Festival

We were excited to be a part of the opening weekend at the Anchorage Folk Festival.  We presented a workshop on Saturday for 20 attendees. Sharing Alaska Children’s Songs and activities with parents and children. On Sunday, we enjoyed playing more original songs, including a song to help alleviate anxiety after the earthquakes that Anchorage has been experiencing lately. The girls really enjoy joining me on stage for the show. I am lucky to have two talented little girls that share mom’s passion for singing and songwriting. Another successful show with Tundra Berry Jams!

Workshop

Really excited this year to be hosting a workshop for the Anchorage Folk Festival!  On Saturday from 1:00-2:15 children will have a change to learn about rhythm, rhyme and beat with Alaska Themed Children’s Songs. This is the first year I have offered a workshop and I cannot wait!  Hopefully after the weekend is over, I will add some clips of the event. screen shot 2019-01-16 at 1.50.58 pm

Alaska Folk Festival

I was thankful for the opportunity to join my good friend at the 44th Alaska Folk Festival in Juneau this past weekend. We signed up back in February and were disappointed when we did not get a spot immediately. The Alaska Folk Festival had been a goal for both of us since we lived in Nome.  We used to play the Nome Midnight Sun Folk Festival together and had a great time!

We found out last month that a spot did in fact open up, 8:00 pm, Saturday night, main stage.  So we came up with a set list and practiced via Facetime.

Juneau put on a lovely show with some blue sky weather and enthusiastic audiences.

We have always enjoyed making the audience laugh and giving a little different show than your typical Folk Fest crowd. We chose to do City of Stars from LaLa Land and Interjections from School House Rock. Wes asked if I had any originals ready to go and I said, of course!  We also played Island Party and Wes enjoyed learning the song and adding some fun variations.imagejpeg_0-1IMG_5772

I was glad to add percussion to some of the songs as well as focus on a few vocal solos and harmony.  Our bucket list is checked off for the Alaska Folk Festival until next year!

Musher Celebration

After performing at Open Mic Night during Iditarod Week, I was asked to do some music during a celebration for 12th place finisher Aaron Burmeister, a musher originally from Nome. Norton Sound Health Corporation was one of his sponsors during this year’s race. They had a special pancake breakfast and musher meet and greet. As an opener, I was asked to play my original “Iditarod Song” along with some other Tundra Berry Jams. It was a well received addition to the event.

Aaron continued with story time after the breakfast and music. I was honored to be part of such a fun Nome event.
